Style Envy: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Like I said before, I really admire Mary-Kate and Ashley’s sense of style.  Albeit sometimes they can get a little kooky, ultimately I think that payoff is worth it.  Fashion’s no fun if you can take some risks.

Favorite Summer Makeup Tutorials

When I was younger, when it came to makeup I always thought more was more.  Scary, I know.  But thankfully as I aged, I learned the art of subtly.  That said, I still like to play up my makeup every now and then but don’t always know how.

Every time I feel uncertain or that I’ve gotten myself into a makeup rut, I check out the new tutorials from some of my favorite video makeup bloggers.  They are super helpful and insightful (and weirdly soothing) and have made foundation application a breeze for me now!

Check out the looks I’ll be trying soon and make sure to check out their blogs for other helpful tips.

Olsen Twins Style Website? I’m Down.

{ photo | WENN }

I’ve loved the Olsen Twins since Full House and that love has never waned.  Ever. In fact, through Double Double, Toil and Trouble, Holiday in the Sun, and (especially) So Little Time, that love has only grown.

It’s probably safe to say that MK and A we’re my first legitimate fashion icons. Matching ensembles in the early days aside, I worshiped these girls and everything they wore/did and kind of still do.  I’ve been following their foray into fashion and their subsequent careers and have always looked up to them as inspirations.

So naturally, I was pleased to hear they were launching a personalized shopping website complete with affordable tees and informative videos.  I love that it’ll be more of an experience rather than just a shopping site, but most of all I love being able to afford something!  (Oh, how I would love to own any one item from Elizabeth and James…)

Update: Stylemint has launched!

A Lesson In Art History

I’m loving the slightly tongue in cheek lookbook for the Christian Louboutin Fall 2011 collection.  The collaboration with photographer Peter Lippmann features a series of classic portrait-inspired photos (from the likes of Jean-Marc Nattier’s Marquise de Pompadour and Georges de la Tour’s Magdalene and the Flame) that integrate shoes and accessories from the collection.  The juxtaposition is wonderful and definitely worthy of a look.  Check out some of the photos below.

Mad About Mad Men Style

I was super excited to find out that retailer Banana Republic is once again teaming up with TV series Mad Men, but this time, it’s with the show’s costume designer to release a capsule collection of Mad Men inspired clothing.  I love the show, but I love their costumes more.  1960’s silhouettes are to die for (not to mention all the tailoring!) and the women on the show just always look so effortlessly chic.

The collection will feature 65 pieces for both men and woman and will be available in store and online starting Aug. 10.
