Nude Nails

I love to use neutrals on my nails for springtime. There’s something about them that looks so fresh and new, just like the season. I usually prefer my nudes on the pinker side since I am super fair with pink undertones, but every now and then I enjoy an ultra-light beige or, if I’m feeling daring, an even darker lacquer. Check out some of my favorite nudes below.

TrendSpotting: Hi-low Hem

The hi-low silhouette is probably the hemline of the season. You can find it at any price point and in any material. I prefer them in a more flowy fabric like chiffon or jersey. That way they’re perfect for the beach or a casual day around town, but can easily be dressed up for night too with the right pair of heels and some great accessories.

Maybe She’s Born With It

{ Maybe it’s Maybelline Marc Jacobs. }

I saw this photo on Pinterest the other day, fell in love with it and then felt compelled to share it here. I love that you can practically feel the stares on the lady in red. She may be a bit daring for the time, but she looks poised and put-together. In other words, she looks good.

I think style is dressing for yourself in what you like and what looks good on you. And nothing looks better on a woman than confidence. Trends come and go, but staying true to yourself and your taste will always be in fashion. So go ahead and be a little daring every once in a while.

{ Estée Lauder Mad Men Color Collection $25-40 }

Unless it’s already a time-tested favorite of mine, when it comes to makeup I am a sucker for pretty packaging. Brands like Benefit, Two Faced and Anna Sui always catch my eye with their adorableness. So it’s no surprise really that the Estée Lauder Mad Men inspired collection caught my eye. The vintage-like gold compact case and lipstick tube are so glamorous in their own right, who wouldn’t feel that way when applying (especially in public.) It also helps that the products pigments are such classics. This collection is a must-have to create that perfect vintage look or to, you know, just look plain amazing.

Music Monday

I haven’t had a chance to see The Hunger Games yet due to a weekend of work (though tonight’s the night), but I did have time to download the soundtrack off iTunes. Seeing so many well-known artists who didn’t exactly fit the soundtrack I had created in my head for the novel had me a little hesitant, but the Taylor Swift and Civil Wars single “Safe And Sound” had already surprised me in its ability to capture the feel of the story. I think the songs that make up this compilation really capture the essence of the narrative, managing to be both vulnerable and pulse-pounding, while remaining earthy and subtle in its mostly folk-rock sound.
