Music Monday

I haven’t actually liked a music video in a long time, but I think this one for Solange’s “Lovers in the Parking Lot” is absolutely amazing. It’s a bit quirky, her dance moves are awkwardly perfect, plus she wears the hell out of those hot pants. The song itself is really pretty and so ridiculously catchy that I bet you’ll be replaying it for the rest of the day.

7 Ways To De-stress

Everyone gets stressed out from time to time, but what’s important is finding a way de-stress that works for you. Here are some of my tried and true methods of relaxation for when stress rears its ugly head.

1. Breathe  In and out. And deep. Breathing this way causes you to concentrate on one thing and regain your focus.

2. Go Outside  Sit on a bench, go for a walk, or do anything outside for a few minutes to as long as you can. Fresh air can do wonders for the soul.

3. Stretch  Really any form of exercise is a good way to de-stress, but if you’re short on time, stretching will do. Think child’s pose, tree pose, or any spinal twist. But you don’t have to be a yogi for this to work. Do whatever feels right, as long as you can feel a stretch without straining.

4. Organize  Clean your desk or other personal space. Make a list. Rework your schedule. Stop and do something to take control over whatever is affecting you.

5. Take A Bath  What sounds better than a nice hot bath? The  answer is nothing, except maybe wine. So if you have a bottle handy, bring a glass in with you and light a candle. Take it up a notch with bubbles, salts, or essential oils.

6. Pamper Yourself  Sometimes a little me time is all a girl needs. Paint your nails, get a massage, or read that trashy magazine you’ve been dying to feast your eyes on. Just take a break for a bit.

7. Have a Dance Party  Some people like to listen to relaxing music to calm them, but I’m the opposite. Sometimes, you just need to dance it out with or without any tunes. Try it out at least once, trust me. Even just 30 seconds can do wonders.

vacation

This edition of Currently Coveting is something I think everyone can relate to: a vacation. Right now, I’m longing to lounge in the sun on a quiet beach with a drink in my hand and the breeze in my hair. I know I can’t be alone in this, especially during this time of year. Well, that is if your area experiences winter, at least. Almost everyday this week alone has been dreary, dark, and downright cold; it’s enough to make more than just bears want to hibernate.

Bucket List 2013

ny2012

Like I said before, I think resolutions are just asking to be broken, so I like to make a bucket list of sorts for the upcoming year. Here’s my list of things I’d like to accomplish:

keep a journal  I’ve never been the kind of person to keep a diary, but I’d like to be. There’s something that seems so relieving about it, like you could write down any thoughts or issues in a journal and work through them, or at the very least, get them out of your system.

print more photos  Don’t get me wrong, digital cameras are a wonderful invention, but I hardly ever print my photographs anymore. I can remember being younger and heading to the nearest photo center the day after a big event because I just couldn’t wait to see the images I had captured. Now, even though everything is pretty immediate, I’d still like to regain some of that excitement.

dye my hair red  I keep flirting with this idea so much, that I think it’s finally time to take the plunge. My natural color is a darker strawberry blonde, and I usually only turn it up a notch or two when I visit my stylist. Maybe it’s time to turn it up to 11.

visit the nation’s capital  I would love to visit Washington D.C. I hear it’s a great city filled with culture and history that I really want to soak in. Plus, how cool would it be to meet Bo?

faux fur vest

{ A|X Armani Exchange Chevron Faux Fur Vest, $179 }

This faux fur vest is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Although I had it in my head to buy one in a shade of grey, I think this one will actually suit me far better. I love the chevron pattern and the two-tone color. I’m already mentally pairing it up with items in my closet, like cozy cashmere sweaters and military-style parkas. Bring on the cold, winter. This girl’s ready.
